Merrylee Primary's Beth Barnes P7, Fraser Faulds P6, Dennis McLaughlin P7, Jackie Hunter & Jackie McAulay, parents, being presented with the Millar trophy at Botanic Gardens

Merrylee Primary School have jointly won the Millar Cup for ‘Best Children’s Allotment in Scotland’ with their neighbouring primary school OLA.

The schools were presented with the trophy at the Kibble Palace in the Botanic Gardens and on Sunday 7 September the school children proudly showed off their hard work at a very busy ‘Open Day’ at Merrylee Allotments.

Merrylee Primary had a very popular stall selling produce from their allotment and allowed visiting children to ‘get their hands dirty’ by digging up vegetables and fruit picking.

A very enjoyable and educational experience for all.

The plot is currently managed by two very enthusiastic parents, Jackie McAulay and Jackie Hunter. They encourage the children who look forward to their weekly visit to their plot. Liz Mahindru, Head Teacher, said, ‘It is wonderful to be able to offer our pupils this fabulous outdoor learning experience. We are thrilled with the support of parents and from the community. The Merrylee Allotment plot holders have guided the development of our plot have been very generous to the pupils.’
